With increasing investment in electromobility, batteries are becoming a central element for the transportation of the future. Efficient machine concepts are crucial for the production of high-performance and safe batteries. The aim is to achieve optimum added value and cost efficiency while maintaining a high level of safety and quality.
Contexo is currently implementing an end-of-line (EOL) system for round cells. Production must take place under clean room conditions. Contamination that could impair the performance and service life of the batteries must be avoided. Dust particles, moisture and other impurities can disrupt the chemical processes within the batteries and lead to reduced efficiency. It is therefore essential that the battery cells are assembled on machines that meet the requirements of ISO Class 7 clean room production. This is the only way to ensure consistently high battery quality, which is essential for the reliability and performance of electric vehicles.
The battery cells are fed, weighed and cleaned in a fully automated process. The cell cleaning process takes place with ionized air. Dust removal is an important element in the overall process. The aim is to remove even the finest production residues and also to improve the surface tension of the battery cell. This in turn is necessary to optimize the subsequent assembly of the insulating film.
The cleaning process is followed by the integrated vision inspection. The cell is checked from all sides for scratches, dents & dings, particles, dust, deformations and integrity.
The cell is then precisely wrapped in a film for electrical and thermal insulation and a hipot test is carried out to check that it has been assembled correctly. After testing, the battery cells are printed with a QR code and then automatically packed in trays.
