Premiere at Fakuma: Netstal presents all-electric Elion for closure production

At Fakuma, Netstal is presenting the new all-electric Elion 3200 CAP for the high-performance production of beverage closures. The combination of the newly developed 3,200 kN clamping unit and the electric injection unit 2000 is designed for short cycle times, high process stability, maximum availability and energy efficiency.
In the trade fair application, the machine produces 26 mm HDPE closures using a 72-cavity mould from Z-MOULDS and a hot-runner system from MHT. With a shot weight of 72 g, the cycle time is just 1.8 seconds. Other project partners include TotalEnergies, Piovan, IMDvista and ef cooling.
The optimised toggle geometry enables short dry-cycle times, while improved force application increases the rigidity and service life of the clamping unit. Maintenance-friendly components, easy-to-clean surfaces and optional automatic grease lubrication help reduce downtime. The ejector is available in either an electric or hydraulic version.
The new injection unit 2000 features a screw stroke of 260 mm and, depending on the screw diameter, achieves an injection pressure of up to 2,400 bar. Synchronously controlled injection spindles reduce mechanical stress. Force-dependent switchover ensures high precision and consistent shot weights.
Electric injection, efficient servo drives and intelligent load distribution reduce energy consumption, operating costs and CO₂ emissions. The optimised power supply concept enables additional energy savings of up to five per cent.
The Axos 9 control system offers intuitive operation, Smart Operation functionality and OPC UA and HTML5 integration. In the clamping-force range from 2,200 to 4,200 kN, the Elion will be available in either a hybrid or all-electric configuration. The application determines which technology provides the best technical and economic solution.
