BIOBASED LIQUID COLORS: ROWASOL GREENLINE FOR SUSTAINABLE PLASTIC APPLICATIONS

With the new ROWASOL GreenLine, ROWASOL offers liquid colorants based on renewable raw materials for sustainable plastic applications. In addition to a carrier system that already contains more than 75% biobased content, selected colorants of plant origin are used.

Through a special process, the natural colorants are incorporated into a natural mineral. This significantly improves their thermal stability, making them suitable for the processing temperatures typically required in plastics manufacturing.
The current portfolio includes colorants based on indigo, curcumin and radish extracts. The range is complemented by a natural black color based on plant-derived carbon and a natural white color based on minerals. This already enables a wide variety of biobased color concepts for sustainable plastic applications.

The GreenLine color palette shown was tested in two different bioplastics at dosage levels ranging from 0.5 to 2.0%. While transparent biopolymers allow for more vibrant colors, white opaque materials create softer, pastel-like shades. These examples demonstrate both the influence of the polymer matrix on color appearance and the excellent color development of the biobased liquid colorants, even at low addition rates.

The development of the GreenLine product range is being continuously advanced. The aim is to further increase the biobased content of the carrier system and to integrate additional natural colorant sources in order to expand the available color spectrum.

ROWASOL GreenLine demonstrates that sustainable coloration and industrial plastics processing are no longer contradictory goals. The product range provides the foundation for innovative color concepts that combine technical performance with a higher share of renewable raw materials.
